If you're covering songs, you're not a real musician! You're just a copycat! If you can't write your own stuff, get a different job! Quit exploiting people who are too stupid to even realize you're doing it!
So he just stands there, looking crestfallen. I realize I've said the wrong thing, seeing as he plays guitar and sings but hasn't been in a band who does original material in quite some time...so I backpedal.
I mean, if you're performing them live it's okay - please the crowd, let them sing along... It's the people who are recording the covers that piss me off!
Well, it is with great reluctance that I will admit...Not all cover songs suck.

REEL BIG FISH - Take on Me probably belongs on this list.
ReplyDeleteMark Ronson's album Version is one of my favorites, and it's all covers. But he re-writes the song and uses the most RANDOM people to sing them. Like Old Dirty Bastard doing Toxic by Britney Spears. The result is always awesome and totally original, even though it's a cover.
